Keep the frack dealers out of New York State! Keep the budget frack free!

Right now, the gas industry is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to convince New Yorkers fracking is safe. And when gas industry lobbyists come to the New York State Capitol, we call them “frack dealers,” because they’re trying to get our state leaders hooked on something that’s bad for our health—and the health of our water, air, soil, and communities.

Industrial gas drilling by means of fracking could be bad news for the Empire State. Governor Cuomo and state leaders need to just say no to the frack dealers by keeping the New York State budget free of all fracking-related revenue.

In his budget proposal for 2012-2013, the Governor did not include fracking-derived revenue or related funding. This makes it unlikely that New York State will push forward to permit fracking in 2012.

But the state budget is not complete. Now the State Legislature will review the Governor’s proposal and suggest changes, cuts, and additions—and in these hard economic times, lawmakers might be tempted to bank on fracking revenues promised by the frack dealers. We need to convince state lawmakers to keep the budget frack-free!
